‘All Eyez On Me’ biopic surpasses it’s opening weekend earning predictions!
The biopic of late [West Coast] rapper Tupac Shakur had a $45 million dollar budget and eared $27 million opening weekend. Most estimates for the film were between $17 -$22 million! Now, unlike “Straight Outta Compton” [which earned $60 million opening weekend] “All Eyez On Me” won’t break any box office records, however it’s still a SOLID open.
Yes……the film could have done much better had it not been for the critics [in our opinion]! It’s been mixed reviews about it, with some of the harshest critics being vital players in the film! Which may have “stopped” others from checking it out.
We’re talking about Jada Pinkett-Smith, who had a long-time friendship with Tupac Shakur and was depicted in the film. Now if you checked out our interview with producer L.T. Hutton, Demetrius Shipp Jr., and Kat Graham then you know that Jada wasn’t able to be reached until the day filming was complete!
Via a series of tweets, Jada basically expressed her dissatisfaction with the film claiming that it wasn’t an accurate portrayal of her friendship with Pac.
Producer L.T. Hutton has responded to Jada’s comments with the following:
“I’m kinda disappointed and hurt by the accusations that it wasn’t depicted– or I can’t remember the exact words she said. It all came from the truth, and places and moments of her actual dialogued ideas that ‘Pac actually had.’ Multiple best friends and people that eat dinner with her all the time have seen the movie, and they loved it. And they told her about it. They explained to her that everything was great. This was years ago. I wanna go on record. I respect the hell out of Mrs. Smith. I wouldn’t put anything in this film everybody watching this film, they will tell you, I’m very responsible with everyone.”
If you haven’t had a chance to check out “All Eyez On Me,” we’d suggest you do so and form your own opinion.
