Olympic gold medalist Gabby Douglas get her own barbie doll which will join Mattel’s ‘SHERO’ collection!
According to reports, Gabby was very proactive in the creation of the doll. From it’s body’s flexibility to the texture of the hair! Douglas, 21 says that her only goal is for the doll to encourage other young girls.
“I still want to continue to inspire young girls and to tell them to strive for your goals. If you have the passion and if you have something that you love, just really go for it 100%, with all of your heart.”
She goes on to say:
“It looks exactly like me. It was a really fun process.”
The purpose of the ‘SHERO’ collection is to highlight women who breaks boundaries, and in 2012 Gabby Douglas did JUST THAT! She became the first African American gymnast to win and individual gold medal. All while battling issues of self-doubt and insecurities based off of those around her [i.e. teachers, ‘alleged’ friends, etc.]
The barbie goes on sale Monday wearing a red, white and blue leotard and will join the collection alongside other SHERO’s such as: Misty Copeland, Ava DuVernay, Emm Rossum, Sydney “Mayhem” Keiser, and Eva Chen.
CONGRATULATIONS goes out to this young mogul!
