Today, Douglas County Judge William McClain sentenced Kayla Rae Norton to 15 years in prison [only 6 years to serve], and Jose Ismael Torres to 20 years in prison [only 13 years to serve].
Norton and Torres were arrested in July 2015 after being apart of a rally called, ‘Respect The Flag,’ where they [along with a dozen of other people] drove around two counties in pick up trucks, flying confederate battle flags!
Prosecutors called the act….
A drunken two county rampage!
During the rampage, the trucks pulled up to the birthday party of an eight year old African American child, and begin hurling racial slurs while also threatening to kill guests of the party. Then, according to prosecution, Jose Torres pointed a gun at partygoers.
After sentencing, Judge McClain stated:
“If you drive around town with a Confederate flag, yelling the ‘N’ word, you know how it’s going to be interpreted. It’s inexplicable to me that you weren’t arrested by the police that day.”
Unlike Torres, Norton expressed her apologies to the family for the incident.
“I do accept responsibility for what I’ve done. What happened to you is absolutely awful. From mother to mother, I cannot imagine having to explain what that word means.”
Torres and Norton weren’t the only two charged in this offense!
*They got what was deserved*
