While unfortunate, AIDS-related illnesses have claimed the lives of many loved ones. And until a few years ago, there really wasn’t any proper care for individuals who contracted HIV [which can lead to AIDS]; especially if you didn’t have the money required for the treatment offered during that time.
Unfortunately, to date we find that people are STILL very ignorant to the illness!
“At the end of 2015, 36.7 million people were living with HIV. In 2015, 2.1 million people became newly infected with HIV; 150,000 were under the age of 15. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 78 million people have contracted HIV and 35 million have died of AIDS-related illnesses, including 1.1 million in 2015.” -amFAR
To date, those infected with HIV or AIDS take a medication regimen called “ART” which has created longevity in the lives of many affected by the illness.
“Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the use of HIV medicines to treat HIV infection. People one ART take a combination of HIV medicines (called an HIV regimen) every day. ART can’t cure HIV, but HIV medicines help people infected live longer, healthier lives.” -Aidsinfo
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way! You’d understand how shocked we were after reading that director Lee Daniels once dreamt of committing suicide by way of contracting the virus.
Via TheJasmineBrand.com during a recent lecture, Lee disclosed the following:
“It wiped away all of my friends. I had no friends. It was terrifying, because we never knew whether you could drink from glasses or what it was. It was he most terrifying thing ever. And I didn’t understand why it was that I wasn’t dead, because there were far better souls than me that were going [dying]. I thought that I needed to go. And so I descended into drugs and into sexual bathhouses to die.”
Lee went on to say that it’s a miracle that he’s alive!
